Staying Motivated and Determined – How to Win the Battle

Ok, so, you’ve probably been in the same place that I was this morning.  And I know you can picture this - on one shoulder is the “good” guy and on the other is the “bad” guy, and they are arguing – (I made cookies last night for my sick son – thought they would be “soft” so he could eat them easily with his sore throat.) “go ahead, you can have just ONE!”  NO, NO, NO.  “You can have one and then just do you diet the rest of the day!”  No, no – OK.

I lost that small battle this morning, but I did have my coffee with fat free half and half – which on Weight Watchers is free, and I measured out my 3/4 cup of Grape Nuts cereal with 1/4 cup skim milk for 3.5 points.  Then I got out my points finder and figured out that I also ate 2 points for that one cookie.

So, I can do this!  I can eat whatever I need, and I do say need instead of want, because sometimes that is what it really is.  I just have to be sure to keep track of every point I eat, so that when I have a really “needy” day like I did two weeks ago and had a 3 Musketeers bar and two pieces of my son’s birthday cake, I was still able to go to Weight Watchers, and show a loss of 3 pounds that week.  Can you imagine?  I surely didn’t’ think it could happen!  You see, it can be done – you just have to try to eat “good” while you can, and I always say that.  I’m doing good while I can, because I don’t know when all of a sudden this might STOP!  I’m hoping it won’t.

The best way to stay motivated is to keep attending the meetings.  I feel they are one of the most important things that I do for myself every week.  Even when I felt that I may have put weight on – I’ve gone back.  It gives me a chance to “start over”.  A whole new week to be “back on” and I’ve started setting very small goals for each week.  I’m seeing new numbers on my scale that I haven’t seen in a long time, and so each week I aim for one more new number.  If I don’t quite get there, then I’m certainly closer, so I definitely will make it the following week.
